Our Vision

Global communities of practice collaborating to support ethically sustainable Thoroughbred-Human relationships where horses and people flourish.

Thoroughbred
Assisted R&D

The cornerstone of our Thoroughbred Assisted R&D programme is a collaborative PhD research project with the University of Bristol kindly funded by the John Pearce Foundation.  We are developing the evidence-base for best practices in welfare, selection and education of former Thoroughbred racehorses for next careers in Equine Assisted Services (EAS).

The main aim of the research is to create a global standard for selection and training, to help improve welfare support for off-track racehorses going into a career in EAS. The research will help industry and stakeholders to improve Thoroughbred welfare through a successful transition to their new career in EAS.

The John Pearce Foundation

“The Foundation’s Trustees are delighted to support Racing To Relate’s work with the University of Bristol, which will help create a greater understanding of Thoroughbreds’ suitability for Equine Therapy purposes and – hopefully – allow more horses to find a meaningful career after they retire from racing.
